Roger and Shauna Davies Family Newsletter
Magrath, AB Dec 2003: This year has been fun. The grandkids are
approaching age 2 and additional models are now in production. Aubrey and
Deric and Mailei are in Lethbridge. Ashley and Kalani and Megan are too far
away down in Kentucky. Alyssa and Ali-Jo are still living at home. Adrien is
in kindergarten with Mrs. Perry this year and she also took clogging lessons.
Shauna is a stay at home mom, subbing in at the school on occasion, and has a
stake calling as the YW Secretary. Roger is fortunate to be working most days
at the Magrath Pharmacy and fixing computers for Soft Serve Direct at night
and weekends. At church he is the Ward Music Chairman and 2nd Councilor in
the Elder's Quorum. This past summer we attended Shauna's Harrison Family
Reunion in Oregon. It was great camping out on the lawn and meeting all the
cousins. We even had time to dip our toes in the ocean before making the 19
hour drive home. This fall the Magrath Wards were divided to form an
additional (Sixth) ward. The new boundaries are east-west bands across town
so we still have Shauna's mom in our ward but lose my Mom and Arlen and
Laurel who are in the new Sixth Ward.
Deric (& Aubrey): "Hi All, This year has been a crazy one,
changes in life have made this probably the most hectic since we got married
4 1/2 years ago. That's right it's been that long. Weird eh? I had some
success this year on the awards circuit in regards to the movie I made as an
undergraduate. Being nominated for an Alberta Film and Television Awards, and
winning a DV Award for Best DVD Design and Bronze 'Telly Award' for Best
Low-Budget. It is a fun industry and I love it. So much so that we are
planning to attend Graduate School so I can get a Masters Degree in Film. I
have also been teaching at the Lethbridge Community College this past
semester in the Communication Arts Department. I absolutely love teaching and
that is another reason to do the Masters so I can continue to teach at the
college/university level. On the home front, Mailei is just the cutest,
smartest little girl in the world! Okay I'm a bit biased, but she is so smart
and has been talking for about 6 months now and communicates very well and
her vocabulary is amazing. She says things like "Time to be quiet,
Daddy." and bigger words like, "Hippopotamus" It's amazing.
She'll be two years old on New Year's day. I can't believe how quickly the
time has gone. That being said we've got a new baby on the way. Aubrey is
pregnant again with our second child and she is due the beginning on March.
She thinks it is a boy, but who knows. Aubrey is dying to find out the
gender, but I'm kind of hoping to be surprised. We'll see who wins this
debate. Aubrey is doing well in her pregnancy, but now that she's in that
last trimester things are getting uncomfortable and that kid is really bootin'
her! We are really so excited for the new baby and we know we are so blessed
to have so many friends and members of our family so close to us. We hope
that you and yours have a safe holiday season and that you have a Merry
Christmas and all the best in the New Year! Love, Deric, Aubrey, Mailei &
Baby"
Ashley (& Kalani): "Hey everyone! Things are going well
here in Kentucky. We got our first snow fall on the 13th of December and the
following Sunday it was still really bad. The next morning it all melted away
and it is really nice again! Everyone here is happy and healthy. Kalani is
still working at Springfield Products. Right now he is doing swing shifts, so
week to week we don't know when he's working. He also is working a lot of
over time so the money is nice! He serves as Young Men's President in our
branch, the only problem is we don't have any young men (except for 2 that
only come when they aren't at their moms). He has a long list of inactive
young men that he is trying to work with. It's a challenge but he's getting
there. Megan is also doing well. She will be two on Feb 6th, 2004. She is a
crazy kid getting in to everything and talks non stop! Since I am with her
all day I know what she says when it doesn't seem coherent. Kalani still has
a hard time with some of the things she is trying to tell him when I know
exactly what she is saying. I am still in the Primary as 1st Counselor. It's
a challenge for me also because we usually don't have that many kids, but
recently we went from 6 to 14 after 2 new families moved in to the branch.
Since average attendance in our branch at Sacrament Meeting is only 60,
on a good day, we don't have many teachers to draw from. I teach the 8-12
year olds. Take care one and all! Love Ashley, Kalani, Megan and baby (due
the end of May!)"
Alyssa: "[I am the] middle oldest (as my Dad puts it). I'm
planning to visit a friend in Vegas (my first time) in a few weeks. I
work at Wal-Mart now and I'm just loving it. It keeps me busy, especially
lately with the Christmas rush. The best part is working with Ali cause we
get to car pool and spend tons of time together. Yay, bonding moments! I'm
really excited for Christmas this year! Happy Holidays. Love Alyssa" [-=-]
Ali: "I graduated last May and with that was thrown into the
working world. After going through the summer saying I would get a job, I
finally did .. in September. So, I now am a Wal-Mart Photo Lab Technician.
Yay for me! I really like working there and it keeps me busy. If you need
pictures developed, I'd be happy to hook you up. When I am not working, I am
busy going to FHE or one of the many other ward activities. Alyssa and I
attend the Lakeview Young Adult Ward in Lethbridge and love all the people
there. I'll wrap this up by telling Mom I want a car for writing this. Love
Ali-Jo" [-=-]
Adrien (& Shauna): I laughed when I read that Ali wanted a car.
I told Adrien, "Ali, wants a car for writing her letter!". Adrien
replied, "You give it to her, Mom .. just ask Santa for it.". Why
didn't I think of that?
