| Best quote: ".. the Test Center doesn't dislike Windows Vista. It works fine (with enough CPU strength and 4 GB of memory installed). It just works less fine than Ubuntu 8.10."

I recently found a great online tv broadcast on the web at category5.tv with Robbie Ferguson a computer tech from Ontario. At first I was drawn to it as he reminded me a lot of Pres Jamie McMahon of Magrath in the way he spoke and partly how he looked. He also primarily uses Ubuntu (I currently run most my work computers on Ubuntu with servers on SMEServer) and produces/broadcasts a one hour 'live' show every Tuesday evening (since Sep 2007 with 65 back issues available for viewing - impressive. I found I was learning a lot just watching the past few episodes .. it's just that I didn't find an extra 65 hours of free time to watch them all. Regardless, they (Robbie and his co-host Carrie) do a great job with the show.

I found an article that fixed my shared printer problem .. all this time I presumed it was a Linux problem. Turns out, the problem was with the HP Windows Drivers for my HP PSC 1350 hanging off a WinXP computer. Hmmm
The solution was posted at LinuxQuestions.org by By 'munstah' way back in 2006-02-26 07:37 .. I am using Ubuntu Linux vs SUSE but the problem and solution applies as the HP driver problem rested on the Windows XP computer end.

My internet went down for about an hour the other day .. annoying for me, as I was trying to watch Dr Who online but critical for my website(s), which is(/are) hosted on site here in my palatial office complex.
It is billed as a free website monitoring service 'that doesn't suck'. Other propaganda reads: 'Know when your site is down before the customer (or your boss) tells you! With Montastic, you monitor all your websites and watch them change color as they go up or down. If you don't have time to sit and stare at the monitor, lucky you, Montastic will send you an email each time a server changes status.'
I am pleased to report that it doesn't (suck) and is free and fast to use. With Firefox, you can just subscribe to the RSS feed and save it in your bookmarks and click it to see the current status. The email idea is OK, except for those of you like me who either get so many emails that it is difficult to get through them all every month or so, or just forget to look. It looks like a winner to me and worth every penny.
