igging up Buried CD Treasures
Because most CD's you receive can contain over 600 MB of data and since most programs
you load are still (with some exceptions) far less than that amount, many manufacturers
are loading the remaining space with nifty utilities and freebies.
AOpen customers receive a CD with their new computer in a bright red and yellow CD
holder entitled 'AOpen Bonus Pack'. Most of you just file this CD away with your other
documentation. Don't. It has some important utilities buried inside:

- Norton AntiVirus scanner - install this and then download the latest monthly
virus definition files from the Symantec Antivirus Research Center at http://www.sarc.com ..
- Norton CrashGuard utility - identifies or prevents system abends and lock ups.
- Product Quality Assurance - a great and easy to use hardware diagnostic program
.. to ensure that everything is working normally on your AOpen PC.
- Motherboard Drivers for many AOpen Motherboards - MB's with built-in sound and/or
video components need drivers to work .. they are found on this CD.
- Online AOpen manuals - for the paperless office.

If you have purchased a AOpen PCI fax modem recently, you will have also received a CD
in an orange and blue slip case with a title 'AOpen Component Solutions - Fax/Modem Suite
v6.3xx PCI v.90' on the front. This CD contains the driver for the FM56-PM v.90 modem,
plus by clicking on the 'Software Utilities' button, you can install:

- Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint 97 Viewers - If you don't have Microsoft Office
but you have people sending you things to look at, you can view and print (just not edit)
Office formatted documents.

And don't forget the Windows 98 CD itself .. pop it in the CD-ROM and install things
like the Interactive CD Sampler program (after the video click on Trials. Then you can
download trial versions of 5 games and one financial program):
