Why I like AltaVista. I recommend you take a look

Family
Filter: Many of you got that big new computer with the idea of helping your
children get ahead at school and work. Many of you are also (rightly so) concerned over
the amount of garbage and actual pornography so easily (and innocently) available over
this same medium.One solution? AltaVista allows you to turn on it's 'Family Filter' for
the search engine. Then when you or your children are searching for information on say
'camps for girls with horses' you won't get descriptions of sites on bestiality or the
like (like most of the other search engines do) listed in with all the other sites. So,
turn on the Family Filter and make this search engine your default home page.
It's not infallible, but it sure helps.
Translation:
Another neat feature also available at this site is the ablility to translate text and
even an entire webpage to/from English vs French, Spanish, Italian, German, or Portugese.
Cool stuff.
FreeAccess
(US only): AltaVista FreeAccess is completely free Internet access with no
monthly fees, and your time online is unlimited. You simply fill out a brief questionnaire
to help deliver advertising and offers customized to your tastes, and then you can
download and run the software. You could always call long distance to connect, but then
you will be incurring charges on your phone bill at rates determined by your long distance
phone company.

Interested in searching Canadian sites only? AltaVista provides a site specifically for
our country. Be aware that for some reason, the Family Filter feature is not
implemented on this site .. everybody email and complain ==> AltaVista

Why I like WizGuard. In addition to the above you may
wish to implement kid-safe blocking software. I recommend WizGuard 1.41 from GuardOne.com, Inc. It blocks pages using quick
on-the-fly scanning of the html text prior to display. No lists to access or download. It
just works. This software is shareware (currently $30 US) but a one month FREE trial can
be downloaded from the internet from their site for you to try out on your own system.

Free Home Pages:

Free HoTMaiL Email:
Lots of companies provide free email. MSN has the advantage in being able to integrate the
Hotmail server with the Outlook Express email program. You have to access it every 90 days
to keep it active. It can be used to access your regular POP mail account .. of course,
many ISP's now provide online access as well e.g. webmail.telusplanet.net.
