Getting Yourself Into the Internet

Banking on the Net. I met a nice farmer last month who told me he did all his banking over the internet. Bills are paid. Balances are monitored. Transactions can be downloaded and transferred directly into his accounting package. He doesn't have to get in the truck and drive into town to 'do the banking' and he can access his account anytime he wants. That got me thinking, how different is a bill payment or transfer transaction from using a corner store banking machine, anyway? Most security concerns have been addressed in current browsers. Of course, until we find a way for the disk drive to spit out twenty dollar bills, most of us will keep running to the local cash dispenser (Don't even think about printing your own!).

The following is a list of Canadian Banking institutions currently found (by me) on the net. Most offer basic information, rates, etc. Many are still in the implementation phase. Some are already offering advanced online account access and application for services.

Finally, a word of caution. A news item hit this week about a certain company advertising over the internet, offering a $5000.00 limit VISA card for only $100 with approval guaranteed. Hmmm. They say they took in a million and a half, have never issued any cards, and now they somehow lost the company director/owner. It still goes without saying (but I'm gonna say it anyway) that if it is too good to be true, it probably isn't. Dealing with established institutions is the way to go.
